China’s consumer price rises ease ahead of party policy meeting

Events: Japan and the Arab League begin the two-day Japan-Arab Economic Forum in Tokyo. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer speak to reporters in Vienna. Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck visits Mongolia.

Central banks: The Reserve Bank of New Zealand announces its official cash rate, which it is forecast to hold at 5.5 per cent.

Economic data: China releases inflation data as weak domestic demand drives sluggish price growth. The country’s consumer price index is forecast to rise 0.4 per cent year on year in June. Japanese wholesale inflation numbers, South Korean unemployment data and Philippine trade figures are also due.

Corporate updates: Jiangxi Copper, China’s largest producer of the metal, holds an extraordinary meeting.
