Iranian hackers attempted to share information from Donald Trump’s election campaign with that of President Joe Biden’s, according to US intelligence officials, as they warned that adversaries are ramping up attempts to interfere in the November contest.
The FBI and two other US agencies said in a statement on Wednesday that Iranian hackers had in late June and early July sent “unsolicited emails to individuals then associated with President Biden’s campaign that contained an excerpt taken from stolen, non-public material from former President Trump’s campaign”.
There is no information indicating that the Biden campaign responded, the statement said.
Tehran has increasingly sought to sow division in US politics, including sending stolen material from Trump’s campaign to media outlets, and creating covert news sites targeting US voters with disinformation.
