NEW DELHI: Several parts of Delhi and NCR, including the southern, central and southwestern zones, were soaked by evening showers on Wednesday, bringing much-needed relief from the lingering summer heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert, indicating the likelihood of moderate to heavy rain in some parts of the capital.The rainfall came as the IMD had predicted moderate rain earlier in the day. The maximum temperature settled at 35.6°C, slightly below the seasonal average, while the minimum was recorded at 26.4°C – 1.5 degrees below normal.Humidity levels remained high through the day, touching 81% at 8:30 am and dropping to 58% by 5:30 pm.The good news for residents didn’t stop with the rain. The city’s air quality showed improvement, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 81 at 4 pm, placing it in the satisfactory category. According to the central pollution control board (CPCB), AQI between 51 and 100 is considered satisfactory, with no serious health implications for the general public.With more rain expected, the IMD continues to monitor weather developments closely.
