Russia on Thursday formally recognised the Taliban government in Afghanistan, marking a significant shift in Moscow’s diplomatic stance as it aims to strengthen ties with Kabul.Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special envoy to Afghanistan, confirmed the move in an interview with state-run Ria Novosti, stating that the Kremlin has now recognised the Taliban regime, which calls itself the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.Russia’s foreign ministry also confirmed the decision to TASS news agency, signalling a new phase of engagement with Afghanistan’s leadership, nearly three years after the Taliban returned to power.
