MUMBAI: Chunabhatti police have booked a woman for abetment to suicide after the husband’s father lodged a complaint alleging that his daughter-in-law drove his son to take his own life. A retired police constable filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Chunabhatti Police Station in Mumbai, alleging that his son, Siddhesh Ratne, was driven to suicide due to mental harassment and infidelity by his wife, Manasi Ratne, and her alleged accomplices. Siddhesh Ratne ended his life by hanging himself on April 18, 2025, at the family’s government-allotted residence near Swadeshi Mills in Chunabhatti. Ratne had moved to his native village in Digras, Yavatmal, after his retirement in November 2024, while his son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter continued living in Mumbai. According to the complaint, tensions between Siddhesh and Manasi had been ongoing since their love marriage in 2020. Manasi’s alleged extramarital affairs—particularly with a man named Yuvraj Jadhav—were reportedly the main cause of domestic discord. Despite multiple attempts by Siddhesh to reconcile for the sake of their two-year-old daughter, Shreesha, the harassment allegedly persisted. Siddhesh once caught Manasi in a compromising situation with a man named Arvind Chaudhary but chose to forgive her. However, her alleged relationships with other men reportedly continued, causing Siddhesh severe emotional distress. Ratne said his son often shared his struggles and despair, but was persuaded to remain strong for his daughter’s future. After Siddhesh’s death, Ratne returned to Mumbai on May 19 and unlocked his son’s mobile phone, which he had kept securely. There, he discovered a pre-recorded suicide video and a written note stored as a photo. In the video, Siddhesh reportedly names Manasi, Yuvraj Jadhav, and a third person, Aarti Shivgan from Satara, accusing them of driving him to suicide and pleading that custody of his daughter be granted to his parents. The recovered note and WhatsApp chats allegedly reveal that Yuvraj taunted Siddhesh, saying, “I slept with your wife. You die, and I’ll keep her happy,” and encouraged him to end his life. Ratne has demanded legal action against Manasi Ratne and Yuvraj Jadhav for abetment to suicide, citing strong digital evidence. Chunabhatti police have registered a case and are currently verifying the contents of the video and digital messages. Investigations are ongoing.
