NEW DELHI: Six pistols and 14 magazines were recovered near the India-Pakistan border in Punjab’s Amritsar during a joint search operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police, officials said on Friday.
The operation, conducted on Thursday, led to the discovery of a large packet wrapped in yellow adhesive tape with a metal wire ring attached to it in a harvested field near Mahawa village, a BSF spokesperson said.
“Upon opening the packet, six pistols and 14 magazines were found inside. The recovery was made possible due to a swift and well-coordinated operation between BSF troops and Punjab Police,” the spokesperson added.
Two shooters injured in encounter with police in Tarn Taran; weapons, grenades recovered
In a different incident, 2 alleged shooters linked to the Satta Naushera gang were injured in an encounter with Punjab Police in Tarn Taran district on Thursday night. Police said the two men opened fire when confronted, prompting retaliatory action that left them wounded.
“Both sustained bullet injuries during the encounter. One of them, Mehak, is associated with the Satta Naushera gang and was also wanted in a case related to a hand grenade recovered in January,” said SSP Tarn Taran Abhimanyu Rana.
The encounter followed the arrest of one of their associates by Punjab Police and the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) on April 17, which led police to the shooters’ location. According to officials, the duo was planning another attack when the police intercepted them.
Police recovered two Pakistan-made pistols from the spot.
